Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Masana TV (masana.tv) is the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy. Contact us at info@masana.tv.

2. Information we collect

Accounts: We collect your email address, display name, password (stored in hashed form), profile photo and, for anchors who provide one, an optional bio. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture.

Activity: We collect follows, likes, comments, live chat messages, comment reports, views and watch activity, and notifications.

Creator content: We collect uploaded videos, live streams and thumbnails. Camera and microphone access is requested only when an anchor chooses to go live or a guest joins a call-in or interview.

Campaign applications: We collect the name, contact details and supporting documents you submit. Documents are stored privately and are visible only to authorised admins and campaign administrators.

Partner channels: We collect business or channel names, contact email addresses and YouTube channel information. PayFast handles payments; we do not store card details.

Messages and usage: We collect contact form messages and emails sent to us. Google Analytics collects usage data such as browser or device type and pages viewed.

3. How we use information

We use information to provide accounts and streaming, display content and engagement, send notifications and service emails, moderate content and support safety (including child safety), process campaign applications and partner subscriptions, improve the platform, and comply with the law.

4. Sharing

We do not sell personal data. We share information with service providers processing it on our behalf: Mux for video hosting and streaming; ZEGOCLOUD for live video; Google for sign-in, Analytics and YouTube services; PayFast for payments; and our hosting and email provider. We share application information with campaign partner institutions only when needed to process an application you submitted, and with authorities when required by law.

Your display name, profile photo, bio, published videos, comments and chat messages may be visible to other users.

5. Data retention

We keep account information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your profile and personal data, except where the law requires retention or records must be kept for safety or abuse prevention.

6. Account and data deletion

You can delete your account in Settings → Delete account. This removes your profile and personal data, subject to the retention exceptions above. You can also email info@masana.tv with the subject “Delete my data” to request deletion, including deletion of campaign application data.

7. Your rights under POPIA

Under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you may request access to your personal information, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to its processing. Contact us to exercise these rights. You may also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.

8. Security

We use encryption in transit, hashed passwords, private document storage and restricted admin access to protect information. No system is 100% secure.

9. Children

Users must be at least 13 years old. Users under 18 need consent from a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Read our Child Safety Standards.

10. Cookies and analytics

We use cookies and local storage for sign-in sessions and preferences. We use Google Analytics for usage statistics.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. Changes will be posted on this page.
